Chapter 14 (1/2)

Kais Salvator.

He was the male lead of the novel and Priscilla’s savior. While growing up, he had to deal with all kinds of hardships and struggles. This made him reserved about his emotions, and he only cared about himself.

In the novel, he had a terrible personality, but once he met the female lead, he had calmed down.

“Get lost.”

Bam!

‘Amelia isn’t patient!’ I unconsciously punched Kais in the back of his head. The glare he gave me was so fierce that I felt I would be killed. So, I hid behind Ludwig.

“…” It looked like Ludwig wanted to say something, but he silently stood as my shield.

“Ha!” Kais’s eyes boiled in anger, and he stood up with his sword.

“Hey! Where are you going?”

“Get lost.”

“Huh?”

“I’m moving alone.” Kais started walking in the direction my dad had disappeared to.

I stayed back and tilted my head. “It’s not in that direction…” I didn’t know if I needed to correct him, but it was too late to chase after him.

‘If I tell him now, he’ll be embarrassed.’ “Ah, I’m so kind.” I was immersed in my kindness as I turned back to Ludwig. He was waiting for my command. “Ludwig, let’s go!”

“Saintess, where are we going?”

That was still a secret. I looked at the paladins and then back at Ludwig. I had the best solution. “Ludwig.”

“Yes, Saintess.”

“Do you believe me?”

“Pardon?”

“Do you believe me?”

“…” Ludwig’s eyes trembled.

I looked at him with clear, calm eyes. ‘Now, look into my eyes. You’ll be healthy and happy!’

Eventually, Ludwig nodded. “Yes, I believe you.”

I smiled. “Then let’s go in with our belief!”

We didn’t have time to lose.

Kais expertly twirled his sword and looked at the blood on the blade. ‘This is almost a massacre.’ He could tell how strong the man in front of him was by looking at his surroundings.

Kais’s dead eyes shone with hope. ‘I can save him.’ When he had run away alone, he had been hopeless.

“It’s okay, Brother. Go.” Harel had known this as well at that time. There was no way Kais could return after leaving.

“I’ll save you.”

But Kais had promised him.

“I’ll definitely save you.”

Kais had promised to bring someone to save Harel because he couldn’t do it with his own power. However, he couldn’t keep his promise. Because no one wanted to help him at all.

“We’ll help!”

Except for one person.

Kais frowned when the bright face with shining eyes flashed in his mind again. He was at his wit’s end, and he had uttered those words because he had nothing to lose.

He could’ve never anticipated that the very last person he asked would agree.

‘What a weird kid.’ He didn’t like how she was carefree as if she had grown up not knowing suffering. ‘She gets on my nerves.’ That was the only reason he behaved that way.

He shook his head and escaped his thoughts. Right now, he needed to save his younger brother.

Ludwig sneaked a peek behind him and looked at the small figure. He thought it would be difficult for her, but Amelia was easily following along.

‘Cute.’ He knew that he shouldn’t have these thoughts about such a precious person, but he unconsciously softened as he watched her little feet keep up with him.

‘She wasn’t like that in the beginning.’ He remembered the first time he had met Amelia. The child had been crying alone between two corpses. Everyone else used to treat the saintess in awe, but in Ludwig’s eyes, she was just a kid.

After that, she had been sent to the Vatican, and he became unable to see her. However, he prayed that Amelia lived happily.

Even now, when Amelia was smiling brightly, all Ludwig saw was that kid.

‘I need to protect the saintess.’ Ludwig took a firmer grip of his sword. ‘The saintess believed in me and gave me the holy sword.’

Not many paladins could hope for something like that. Ludwig felt overwhelmed that he was recognized. His sense of responsibility made him straighten his back.
